Early career teachers leading with their learning.

Welcome! This website is a collection of resources from the Early Career Teaching Network (ECTN), a learning community aimed at building adaptive expertise in teaching, reliably, at scale.

The ECTN convened from 2016-2020 with a group of early to mid career teachers in Boston Public Schools, all graduates of the Boston Teacher Residency (BTR) program, and their BTR coaches.

We organized as a networked improvement community, where we developed and tested new systems and structures to support teachers to learn from each other’s practice. Working on their own teaching while building their capacity to coach others, ECTN teachers helped redesign and reimagine systems for adult learning—while staying in classrooms. The community’s work expanded to include and impact more teachers and their students.

Humbly, we share our learning through this collection of resources and tools that stemmed from these years of partnership.

Network teachers and coaches developed and tested routines that support students to use data about their performance to continuously improve.

Systems for Student Learning

In partnership with network teachers, we developed practices for building teacher leadership capacity and developing teachers’ expertise.

Systems for Teacher Learning

“The ECTN increased the impact of early career teachers, first through coaching, feedback and professional development, and then through development as coaches and instructional leaders.”
